I want Kung Fu Fighting or the Afternoon Delight or the Bar song from Star Wars, but he says I'm being too silly and it has to be a romantic song. I'd rather have fun and pick a funny song than be romantic. What do you think? I already compromised when I agreed not to walk down the aisle to Darth Vader's theme song. Do weddings have to be so stuffy and boring??
My fiance and I are arguing over our song for the first dance...?
No but what's funny now may not be so funny twenty years from now. I think you should listen to your fiance more and not worry about being so stuffy/boring. For the first dance, you should pick a song that has meaning for both of you.
Reply:I don't think of it as stuffy, just traditional and it sounds like that is what he is wanting. I think the songs you have picked out are a bit out there, but it is your wedding also and there should be compromises. Look on youtube.com at wedding first dances. There are a lot of fun dances on there you can get ideas from that he might like. He can also see that it doesn't have to be slow and romantic, the guests love the fun dances!!
Reply:Hahahaha, that is totally the opposite of myself and my fiancé! He would love to have Star Wars involved in our wedding! To answer your question though, no, weddings don't HAVE to be so stuffy and boring. On the other hand, how many suggestions has your fiancé offered in regards to planning the wedding? Probably not too many, right? I would suggest that if he is quite opposed to having a funny song as your first dance, you should probably try to reach a compromise, or let him pick. Why don't you incorporate the songs you want into the rest of the dancing?
Reply:Weddings are what you make of them....romantic, funny, off the wall, etc. However, it is something you and your fiance should decide on together. It's both of your wedding. Keep trying to find something both of you can agree on. You don't want the whole day upsetting because of songs.
Reply:OK for my bfflads wedding she started her first song with a romantic slow song and then half way through that song she kicked into the YMCA and it was the awseomest thing ever i absolutely loved it so creative and funny love love loved it totally do that weddings and marriages are about compromising and that's the ultimate compromise.
Reply:You can have something unique and non-stuffy and non-boring while compromising with your fiance.
The first dance is supposed to be memorable and romantic, not a joke.
Reply:Ah, what a nice man you have. Let him choose a lovely first dance song for the two of you, and just BE GRATEFUL. Have a later dance be to those songs you suggest! Of course, weddings can be fun! They should be!
You should walk into the reception to the Cantina song - that would be cool.
Reply:nope i wasnt make a chose together
Reply:With my husband I danced to Tom Waits "Little Trip to Heaven"
We did something neat when I danced with my dad. We danced to our daddy daughter song and then right after we broke into the twist.
Reply:not all weddings are stuff and boring, you don't want to make a mockery of yours by being over the top silly and childish. Instead of dancing to a slow song, dance to a faster romantic song, like "calling you" by blue october.
Reply:Why don't you start off with a boring romantic song, dance a bit with your husband, then with your dad, then have the band break into Kung fu fighting, and you can dance with your husband. If he does not want to dance with you, then choose his best man. Someone should want to dance with the bride something fun at your wedding.
